Wheeling Nailers winger Keven Veilleux has been suspended indefinitely by the organization after directing a racial slur toward South Carolina’s Scooter Vaughan during Sunday’s 5-0 victory.
Veilleux has been with the Nailers since Friday in an attempt to get into game shape as he continues to recover from a knee injury that ended his season last year.
“I’m horrified and I’m disgusted,” Wheeling alternate governor Tim Roberts said. “It will not be tolerated.”
Veilleux and Vaughan were involved in two fights that resulted in five-minute major penalties during the third period. Both were jawing at each other while in the box, and Veilleux reportedly had some words for the South Carolina bench during the game as well.
Vaughan played with the Nailers last season.
The ECHL is expected to comment on the situation.
